How to Compare Insurance Policies Without Looking Only at Price

A low premium can be expensive if the coverage does not fit the risk.

Make the comparison fair

Ask for the same types and amounts of coverage from each insurer. Otherwise, the lowest quote may simply be offering less protection. Keep the declarations pages and quote details together.

Read beyond the headline

Compare deductibles, sublimits, exclusions, claim procedures, replacement-cost or actual-cash-value rules, discounts, and renewal conditions. Ask what could change the premium later.

Leave room for service

Price matters, but so does the ability to reach the company and understand what happens after a loss. A policy is a promise with conditions; clarity before purchase is part of its value.
