Lowe’s current guidance says a refrigerator can be connected to an existing compatible water source in eligible markets, but delivery teams do not create a new water line and cannot connect to certain existing copper lines under the standard service.
If the kitchen has no working shutoff valve within the required distance or needs a new line, budget for third-party plumbing work.
Haul-away is normally another charge
Lowe’s says old-appliance haul-away is an additional purchase for ordinary customers. The old unit generally needs to be disconnected, empty, and ready for removal unless installation service includes the relevant disconnection.
A gas appliance still connected in a market where Lowe’s cannot provide gas service may not be eligible for haul-away until a qualified professional disconnects it.

The value of the inspection is not that it makes modifications free. It identifies them before the appliance arrives.
Example: a $700 dishwasher
Suppose the dishwasher costs $700. The final project may also require sales tax, a new connector hose, separately purchased installation, old-appliance haul-away, and a plumber if the shutoff valve is leaking.
A realistic budget could therefore be hundreds of dollars above the product price. The $700 appliance is only one component of the replacement project.
Example: a washer and dryer set
Suppose you buy a stackable washer and electric dryer. Lowe’s says a new stacking kit is required to perform the stacking service, and required dryer cords or ducts are sold separately.
If you are mixing one new unit with one existing unit, Lowe’s current guidance says it will not stack the mismatched set under its standard service because compatibility cannot be guaranteed.
Do not forget the delivery path
Measure doorways, stairwells, elevators, hallway turns, and the final opening. A refrigerator that fits between cabinets can still fail to fit through the kitchen doorway.
If doors, railings, or other structures must be removed, that can create another labor charge that has nothing to do with the appliance itself.
Installation warranty is not the same as appliance warranty
Lowe’s current installation information says one year of labor protection comes standard with installation. That is separate from the manufacturer’s product warranty and any optional Lowe’s protection plan.
Keep installation receipts and service documentation because a workmanship problem and a product defect can follow different service paths.
Protection plans belong in a separate decision
An optional protection plan should not be treated as installation cost. It addresses future covered failures, while installation cost is what gets the appliance safely connected today.
Compare the manufacturer warranty, the appliance’s expected life, the protection-plan terms, and the plan price before adding it.
Compare Lowe’s with another retailer using installed cost
A refrigerator that is $100 cheaper at Lowe’s can still cost more overall if another retailer includes delivery, connector parts, and haul-away in a promotional package.
Build the comparison line by line: product, tax, parts, delivery, installation, haul-away, site work, and protection.
